Karen wanted a mini-session to get a group shot of her family. So we headed to the Arboretum on a weeknight. Brayden had a great time exploring and collecting leaves. It was a bit difficult to get him interested in the photos, but we managed a few shots! And Nolan was a patient little guy! I haven't seen a baby his age so willing to sit for photos. :-)

I've been taking photos of Porter all year as he's grown from newborn to a year old!! But it was fun to see his siblings again for a session at the Arboretum. They all did a great job at the session! I had fun trying to come up with new areas to use as backgrounds--since this was my fourth session there that week. :-) I LOVED the sensory garden with their outfits! The cream colored wall was perfect for Lachlan's photos and the flowers behind Ava were amazing!
Ha! We'll call it Isabelle's one-year photos because, well...she was 13 1/2 months when Claire and I finally were able to get a date figured out for her photos. :-) Another day at the Arboretum! Isabelle LOVED running around and investigating everything there. So fun to try and capture all the different sides to her personality.
I think this last one is my favorite! :-)
I looked forward to this photo session for months! I've known Dave and Marisa Thorpe both since 6th grade! And I was so excited when Marisa contacted me earlier in the year to book a session. The Thorpes live a bit away in Rochester so we decided to make more a day of it and had them stay for dinner too. It was so great to hang out with them and meet their kiddos. I hadn't seen either of them since our 5th high school reunion 6 years ago! They have a third grader and then triplet first-graders! FOUR kids! And the kids were sooo well behaved during the session. I certainly hope it is not another six years before I see them again!

Wow! I can't believe it's already the 21st and I met up with the Davies family on Oct. 7th! Whew! A little behind in sneak peeks (and maybe these folks' discs), but for good reason! My old computer was an '06 Macbook laptop. It had already reached its limit once and we put in a new hard drive. I also store a lot of things off my computer on storage drives. But it was becoming quite apparent that that little engine no longer could. So I am now working on a brand spankin' new Macbook Pro that has the fastest processor I could buy and a ton of memory and storage space. WHOA! This thing works at lightning speed! So hopefully, I'll get through editing a lot quicker and make up for my lateness in the sneak peeks and get your discs done rather quickly!
Up first on this round of sneak peeks is the Davies Family. We took these at the Arboretum. By the way, I also shot five sessions in six days at the Arboretum two weeks ago. Sooooo, some of these poses and backgrounds might be a bit the same after a few families. But I did try to do at least a few shots in different locations with each family.
I met up with the Hansen family again last week at Riley Lake. Three month old Delaney wasn't in a very photogenic mood. She didn't get her beauty rest earlier in the day and just the idea of photos made her a bit sad. And though it might be a bit mean to be amused by her mood, it was actually kind of fun trying to get a family shot with her. At the very least we managed to capture what the Hansen family's daily life is like right now. A couple of the shots were a little difficult for me because I was laughing too! :-)
And as usual Kyler was a champ taking the photos. He wasn't super interested and needed a bit of coaxing, but really overall, he did a great job! :-)
I headed back to Minnehaha Falls with the Pitzl Family this year. They've done the Arboretum two years in a row for their photos so it was time to try something new! Their session went great and I'm super happy with the photos we got (especially the ones by the gray brick wall! LOVE THEM!), but must remember on a gorgeous fall day, Minnehaha Falls is one BUSY place! Holy cow! People everywhere! And not just ordinary people out milling around, PHOTOGRAPHERS everywhere. That must be, THE place to go for fall photos in the city. I'm pretty sure I counted at least 8 other photographers around us and that is just the ones I noticed. I was also vying for spots with one photographer. We seemed to be following each other around. At any rate, it's definite a nice location. Just maybe better on a weekday afternoon or maybe a day when the kids are off school. :-)

Every year I photograph Cole, I'm blown away by his eyes! Aren't they insanely gorgeous?!
You know, most of the time, my absolute favorite photo from a session is one that I catch on a whim. I'm not planning for it, I'm not posing anyone. It just happens. The photo below was taken at the end of the session. We turned to walk back to the car and Shea told me I should take a photo of her by this tree. I told her okay, just stand however it's comfortable for you. And that's what I got below. One take. That's it. And it is definitely my favorite photo of her from the whole session.
I have to admit. I was a little nervous going into my session with Nathan. My experience with three-year old boys has been interesting. I find many of them really are not at all interested in having their picture taken. And in seeing Nathan at a few playdates this past summer and how busy he was, I just really thought maybe the session was going to be a bit on the difficult side. Well, the old saying sure is true about "assuming" things. Because, holy cow, Nathan was awesome! He sat where I asked him to sit. He gave me different faces and smiles. He was sooooo patient with me. I was truly amazed! And then when we were mostly finished up and playing at the park. He was actually POSING for me! He'd do something and then look at me like, "Aren't you going to take my photo doing this?" ;-)
This session was at yet ANOTHER new location for me. Bryant Lake in Eden Prairie. I'm not sure it would be great for a full family session. But definitely a nice spot for an individual or sibling session.
I was so excited there was a "circle" at this park! I LOVE using the circle in playgrounds for photos and the awesome red on at Miller Park was removed when they put in the splash pad. I know, it's the little things that make me happy.
Last weekend was absolutely GORGEOUS weather for photos! In fact, we're having such a heat wave right now that some people are having to rethink their "fall" photo outfits. Lucky for the Sommers siblings the weather was just right for their outfits!
We headed to one of my new favorite locations, the Cummins House. It's a historic house nearby. There is NEVER anyone there. And I've realized that no matter what time of day, I can work with the location and the light! I'm super pleased to find a place that I can use mid-day and have it work well.
